Dhaka, Insurance Bulletin: Officials and employees in the country's insurance sector are heading into a long, consecutive 7-day holiday starting tomorrow, Monday (May 25), on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha. Accordingly, today, Sunday (May 24), marks the final working day for the insurance sector.
This holiday will remain in effect until May 31 (Sunday). According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private institutions—alongside the insurance sector—will fall under the purview of this holiday.
Holiday Extended via Executive Order
It is worth noting that a 6-day holiday had previously been scheduled based on the prior government decision, which assumed Eid-ul-Azha would fall on May 28. Under the previous schedule, Eid day (May 28) was declared a general holiday, while May 26–27 (pre-Eid) and May 29–31 (post-Eid) were declared holidays via an executive order.
However, after taking office, the new government decided to extend the holiday by an additional day to make the Eid journey smoother and hassle-free for the general public. To this end, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification declaring May 25 (Monday) as an additional holiday. As a result, this year's Eid holiday spans a total of 7 days.
Emergency Services Exempted from the Holiday
The government has announced that all types of emergency services in the country will remain operational despite the long 7-day holiday.
The sectors exempted from the holiday include:
Postal services, along with related vehicles and personnel. Electricity, water, gas, other fuels, fire services, and waste management/cleaning activities.
Telephone and internet services. Operations at all land ports and seaports across the country.
Medical services, including doctors, healthcare workers, and vehicles transporting medicine and medical equipment.
Additionally, the government stated that other public and private offices involved in urgent work of public interest will also remain outside the scope of this holiday and will conduct their operations as usual.
